How to Edit and Create Videos Using YouTube Studio

A practical guide for small businesses and content creators

If you’re running a small business, academy, shop or blog network, video is no longer optional. It builds trust, boosts discoverability, and gives your audience a reason to stay connected.

The good news? You don’t need expensive software to get started.

YouTube Studio offers a surprisingly capable set of tools to upload, edit, optimise and analyse your videos, all within your browser.

Here’s how to use it effectively for business growth.

1. Getting Started: Uploading Your Video

Log into your YouTube account.

Click your profile icon and open YouTube Studio.

Select Create → Upload videos.

Drag and drop your file.

You’ll then enter the Details screen, where the business magic begins.

Optimise for Search (SEO Basics)

For a business-focused channel:

Use clear, keyword-rich titles.

Write descriptions that explain who the video is for.

Add relevant tags (supporting, not stuffing).

Create a custom thumbnail that looks professional and branded.

Tip: Think like a customer searching for a solution, not like a filmmaker naming an art project.

2. Basic Editing Inside YouTube Studio

Once uploaded, open your video and click Editor in the left menu.

You can:

✂ Trim & Cut Sections

Remove mistakes, awkward pauses or off-topic tangents without re-uploading.

🎵 Add Music

Use royalty-free tracks from YouTube’s Audio Library.

🔲 Blur Faces or Areas

Helpful if filming in public or protecting customer privacy.

🔗 Add End Screens

Promote:

Another video

A playlist

Your website

A subscribe button

For business owners, end screens are critical. They turn viewers into subscribers or customers.

3. Using Playlists Strategically

Playlists aren’t just organisation tools, they’re sales funnels.

For example:

“How-To Tutorials”

“Client Case Studies”

“Product Demonstrations”

“Behind the Scenes”

When one video ends, the next plays automatically, increasing watch time and authority.

4. Creating Shorts for Reach

YouTube Studio also supports Shorts (vertical videos under 60 seconds).

Shorts are excellent for:

Quick tips

Product highlights

Customer testimonials

Event snippets

They often reach non-subscribers more easily than long-form content.

5. Analytics: Where Businesses Win

Inside the Analytics tab you can track:

Watch time

Audience retention

Traffic sources

Click-through rate

Subscriber growth

If viewers drop off after 30 seconds, tighten your intros.

If search is your main traffic source, double down on keyword-led videos.

Treat it like market research, because that’s exactly what it is.

6. Adding Chapters for Professional Polish

Use timestamps in your description to create chapters:

00:00 Introduction

01:20 Why This Matters

03:45 Step-by-Step Guide

08:10 Key Takeaways

This improves user experience and can boost visibility in search results.

7. Consistency Over Perfection

You don’t need cinema-level production. Businesses grow on:

Clarity

Consistency

Value

A steady schedule, even one video per week, builds momentum.

YouTube Studio gives SMEs and creators a powerful, free toolkit for producing and refining video content. Used strategically, it becomes more than an editor, it becomes a marketing engine.

If your business isn’t using video yet, the barrier to entry has never been lower.

Using Social Media to Grow Your Customer Base

Choose the Right Platforms

Instagram: Great for product photos, Reels, and Stories.

Pinterest: Ideal for evergreen traffic to your shop or blog.

TikTok: Brilliant for viral content, behind-the-scenes, and trends.

Facebook: Still useful for community groups and targeted ads.

YouTube: Able to show long videos plus shorts, able to run livestreams

X: Good for reaching a big audience

What to Post

Product Shots: Showcase your items in use.

Behind-the-Scenes: People love to see how things are made.

Tips & Tutorials: Offer value beyond the sale.

Customer Testimonials: Social proof builds credibility.

Be Consistent, Not Constant

Aim to post regularly—but don’t burn out. Tools like Buffer or Later help you schedule posts in advance.

Engage With Your Audience

Reply to comments, answer DMs, and show personality in your captions. Algorithms reward interaction.

Bonus Tip: Use Hashtags and Geo-tags

Make it easier for new customers to discover you by tagging relevant keywords and locations.

Why Producing Long AdSense Videos is a Bad Idea: Stick to Short Videos for Better Results

Would you watch his advert if it was long?
In recent years, online video content has exploded in popularity, and monetisation through platforms like YouTube has become a viable income stream for many creators.

AdSense, Google's advertising platform, offers a way to generate revenue from video content by placing ads.

However, many creators make a critical mistake by focusing on producing long videos with the sole intention of inserting multiple ads. While it might seem that longer videos equal more ad revenue, this approach can be counterproductive. Here’s why producing long AdSense videos is a bad idea and why you should focus on short, engaging content instead.

1. Attention Span is Declining

Let’s face it: people’s attention spans are shrinking. Studies have shown that viewers are less likely to watch long videos, especially if the content doesn’t provide immediate value or becomes monotonous. If you create a lengthy video just to stuff it with ads, you risk losing viewers before they even get to those ads, thereby missing out on potential earnings. Shorter, punchy videos keep your audience engaged and eager to watch until the end, increasing the likelihood that they’ll sit through an ad.

If I am watching a ten minute video on YouTube I would almost certainly not want it to be interrupted by an Adsense video that is over an hour in length, even though the subject matter of the advert might be worthy or interesting. And yes, there are people who make video adverts for YouTube that are over an hour in length.

2. Viewer Satisfaction and Retention

The user experience should be a top priority for any content creator. Bombarding viewers with too many ads or unnecessarily long content can result in frustration, leading them to click away or, worse, avoid your channel in the future. Short videos allow for minimal interruptions, which can keep viewers happier. A happy viewer is more likely to return to your channel, subscribe, and engage with future content, all of which contribute to long-term success.

3. Optimised for Mobile Viewing

A significant portion of YouTube’s audience watches videos on their smartphones. On mobile devices, shorter videos tend to perform better because they require less data and time investment. In contrast, long videos might deter mobile users due to buffering issues or the perception that they require too much time to consume. If your target audience is predominantly mobile, sticking to short, digestible videos will enhance the user experience and keep them coming back for more.

4. Ad Fatigue is Real

When viewers are exposed to too many ads in a single video, they can experience “ad fatigue,” which results in them skipping ads or, even worse, installing ad-blockers. By keeping your videos short and limiting the number of ads, you can avoid overwhelming your audience. A well-placed ad in a short video is more likely to capture attention than several ads spaced throughout a long one. This ensures that the ads served are actually seen and not skipped, maximising your AdSense revenue without annoying your viewers.

5. Algorithm Favouritism for Engagement

YouTube’s algorithm prioritises engagement, and this includes watch time and viewer retention. If your long video causes viewers to drop off halfway through, the algorithm may rank it lower in search results or recommendations. On the other hand, short, engaging videos with higher retention rates tend to perform better in search rankings and recommendations, attracting more views and potential revenue. Quality engagement from a short video can outperform a poorly watched long video.

6. Faster Production Turnaround

Short videos are quicker to produce, edit, and upload compared to their lengthy counterparts. By focusing on short, high-quality videos, you can release content more frequently. This not only keeps your audience engaged but also increases the number of monetised videos on your channel. Regular uploads can help you build a loyal following and boost your AdSense earnings in the long run, all while requiring less time and effort per video.

7. Better Targeting of Specific Topics

Short videos force you to focus on specific topics or ideas, which is highly beneficial for viewers who are looking for concise and valuable information. By narrowing down your content to a single topic, you can target your audience more effectively. When viewers know they can get the information they need quickly, they’re more likely to watch your entire video and click on ads that are relevant to the content.

Conclusion: Focus on Quality, Not Length

While the temptation to create long videos to maximise ad placements is understandable, it often backfires. Viewers are increasingly looking for content that is concise, informative, and entertaining.

Short AdSense videos not only respect your audience’s time but also ensure better engagement, retention, and overall satisfaction. In the world of online content, quality trumps quantity every time, and sticking to shorter videos is a much more effective strategy for long-term success on platforms like YouTube.

Leveraging Influencer Marketing for Your Business

In today's fast-moving and digitally connected world, traditional marketing strategies often fall short when it comes to capturing the attention of the consumers of today.

This is where influencer marketing comes into play. Leveraging influencer marketing can be a game-changer for your business, helping you reach a wider audience, build trust, and drive sales. In this blog post, we'll explore what influencer marketing is, why it's effective, and how you can harness its power to benefit your business.

What Is Influencer Marketing?

Influencer marketing is a marketing strategy that involves partnering with individuals who have a dedicated and engaged following on social media platforms or in specific niches. These individuals, known as influencers, can be celebrities, industry experts, or simply passionate content creators who have gained the trust of their audience. By collaborating with influencers, businesses can tap into their influence to promote products or services authentically.

The Power of Trust and Authenticity

One of the primary reasons influencer marketing is so effective is the trust factor. Audiences often perceive influencers as relatable and trustworthy figures. They connect with their content on a personal level, which means recommendations from influencers can carry more weight than traditional advertising.

Influencers can help you convey your brand's message authentically. Since they've already established a unique voice and style, their endorsements don't feel forced or inauthentic. This authentic promotion can be a breath of fresh air for consumers who are tired of traditional, pushy advertising.

Expanding Your Reach

Influencer marketing also helps you reach a broader and often more relevant audience. Each influencer has their own niche or target demographic. By collaborating with influencers whose followers align with your target market, you can ensure that your message is reaching the right people.

Moreover, influencers typically have substantial followings across various social media platforms, which can significantly extend your brand's reach. For example, if you partner with a YouTuber, their video could be shared on YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter, giving your campaign multiple touchpoints and greater visibility.

Building Brand Credibility

Influencers can vouch for your brand's quality and value. When they endorse your products or services, it sends a signal to their audience that your brand is trustworthy. This association can significantly enhance your brand's credibility.

Additionally, influencer marketing can provide you with valuable user-generated content. The content created by influencers can be repurposed for your social media, website, or other marketing materials, further solidifying your brand's image and authenticity.

How to Leverage Influencer Marketing

To harness the potential of influencer marketing for your business, follow these steps:

Set Clear Objectives: Define your goals for the influencer marketing campaign. Do you want to increase brand awareness, drive sales, or launch a new product? Your objectives will guide your strategy.

Identify the Right Influencers: Look for influencers whose audience aligns with your target market. Check their engagement rates, authenticity, and reputation.

Build Genuine Relationships: Establish authentic relationships with the influencers you partner with. This ensures that their endorsements come across as sincere.

Collaborate on Creative Content: Work closely with influencers to create content that resonates with their audience while showcasing your products or services.

Track and Measure Results: Use analytics tools to track the performance of your influencer campaigns. Monitor key performance indicators such as engagement, clicks, and conversions.

Comply with Regulations: Familiarise yourself with the legal and ethical aspects of influencer marketing. Ensure that your campaigns comply with relevant regulations and guidelines.

In conclusion, influencer marketing is a powerful tool that can help your business grow and thrive in the digital age. It offers a unique way to connect with your target audience, build trust, and elevate your brand's credibility. By carefully selecting the right influencers and developing authentic partnerships, you can unlock the full potential of influencer marketing to achieve your business objectives. So, don't miss out on the opportunity to leverage this influential trend for your business's success.
